Grapes: País (skin-contact)
Body: Light to medium
Notes: Rustic and gorgeous. Dried tangerine, pomegranate, rose hip, dried herbs, and a dusty, earthy finish with gentle tannins. Like a Chilean grandmother's garden after the rain.
Pairing: Grilled fish, roasted vegetables, empanadas, mild cheeses, or anything cooked over an open fire.
Louis-Antoine Luyt Pipeño Orange "Carrizal" is a skin-contact wine made from País — one of the oldest grape varieties in the Americas, brought to Chile by Spanish missionaries in the 16th century and farmed by small peasant farmers in the Maule Valley for generations largely without commercial recognition. French-born winemaker Louis-Antoine Luyt arrived in Chile in the early 2000s and became one of the most passionate champions of País and the traditional Pipeño style — low-alcohol, naturally fermented wines made from old-vine País and historically consumed by Chilean working families straight from the barrel. The "Carrizal" is a single-vineyard expression from old, dry-farmed País vines in the Carrizal area, given extended skin maceration to produce a lively, textured orange wine unlike anything else in the natural wine world. Fermented with native yeasts in old wooden barrels with zero additions and no filtration. A wine with deep cultural roots and zero pretension.

What is natural wine?
Natural wine is wine made with minimal intervention from the winemaker, using organically or biodynamically grown grapes and without the addition of chemicals or additives such as sulfites. The result is a wine that is unique, expressive, and often has a more complex and nuanced flavor profile than conventional wines. Natural wine is also often associated with sustainable and ethical farming practices, making it a popular choice for those interested in environmentally friendly and socially responsible products.
