Region: Radda in Chianti, Tuscany, Italy
Grapes: 90% Sangiovese, ~10% Canaiolo (with a touch of Colorino)
Body: Medium-Full
Notes: Outrageously beautiful. Dark red and purple fruit, lavender, rose petal, mint, sweet spice. Rich and sumptuous with exceptional purity and balance. Fine, integrated tannins and crisp acidity. Classic Tuscan elegance married with the warmth of a generous vintage. 96 pts Vinous.
Pairing: Bistecca alla Fiorentina, grilled lamb, eggplant Parmesan, aged Pecorino Toscano.

Additional Info: Montevertine is one of the most historically important estates in all of Italian wine. Founded in 1967 by Sergio Manetti — a steel manufacturer who bought the Radda in Chianti property as a vacation home — it became legendary in 1981 when Manetti refused to add Trebbiano (white grapes) to his red blend as required by Chianti Classico regulations. He left the Consortium entirely, forgoing the DOCG designation. This act of defiance predates and philosophically contradicts the "Super Tuscan" movement — Montevertine uses only traditional Sangiovese, Canaiolo, and Colorino, never international varieties like Cabernet. The flagship Montevertine bottling comes from a 2.5-hectare parcel planted in 1982 on a south/southeast slope. Fermented 21 days in concrete, aged 24 months in large Slavonian and Allier oak barrels. Organic farming. The estate also produces the legendary Le Pergole Torte (100% Sangiovese). Now run by Manetti's son Martino.

What is natural wine?

Natural wine is wine made with minimal intervention from the winemaker, using organically or biodynamically grown grapes and without the addition of chemicals or additives such as sulfites. The result is a wine that is unique, expressive, and often has a more complex and nuanced flavor profile than conventional wines. Natural wine is also often associated with sustainable and ethical farming practices, making it a popular choice for those interested in environmentally friendly and socially responsible products.
