The Producer
Dirt Wine is a low-intervention, terroir-focused California project dedicated to showcasing rare, high-altitude coastal vineyard sites. Emphasizing raw soil expression and minimal cellar intervention, Dirt Wine sources from organic and dry-farmed plots across northern coastal AVAs. In the cellar, winemaking is strictly low-touch: wild-yeast fermentations, neutral vessel aging, no commercial additives or oak flavorings, no heavy filtration, and minimal sulfur additions, allowing the unique geological identity of each site to drive the wine.

The Wine
Sourced from extreme high-elevation, fog-bound vines in the Mendocino Ridge AVA—the only non-contiguous appellation in the US defined strictly by elevation (1,200+ feet)—this 100% Sauvignon Blanc benefits from intense sunlight above the marine fog layer combined with chilling Pacific Ocean air. The hand-harvested fruit undergoes spontaneous wild-yeast fermentation in neutral French oak barrels and stainless steel. Aged on fine lees without batonage, the 2023 vintage delivers explosive citrus brightness, intense flinty soil minerality, and a crisp, maritime-driven finish.

What is natural wine?

Natural wine is wine made with minimal intervention from the winemaker, using organically or biodynamically grown grapes and without the addition of chemicals or additives such as sulfites. The result is a wine that is unique, expressive, and often has a more complex and nuanced flavor profile than conventional wines. Natural wine is also often associated with sustainable and ethical farming practices, making it a popular choice for those interested in environmentally friendly and socially responsible products.
