Region: Santa Barbara County, California, USA (Los Olivos District)
Grapes: 100% Sangiovese
Body: Light
Notes: Ripe red cherry, wild strawberry, watermelon rind, fresh tomato leaf, subtle hints of cinnamon and clove, high-toned acid, light silky tannins
Pairing: Margherita pizza, tomato bruschetta with fresh basil, wild mushroom risotto, pasta pomodoro, backyard charcuterie
With this 2023 bottling, DISKO founder Sean Hogan strips away the serious, heavy-handed reputation often given to California Sangiovese and gives it a fun, low-intervention spin. Sourced entirely from the organically farmed Oak Savanna Vineyard in the Los Olivos District—the same happy dirt that supplies his fan-favorite Gamay Noir—this wine is built for everyday drinking rather than a dusty cellar shelf. Hogan harvests the grapes early to trap the variety's naturally high, mouthwatering acidity while keeping the potential sugars (and resulting alcohol) low. The fruit is fermented with native yeasts and aged in neutral French oak barrels to let the pure, unadulterated fruit take center stage. The result is a vibrant, translucent light red that boasts classic Sangiovese notes of tart cherry and savory tomato leaf, but with a bouncy, energetic "glou-glou" framework. Unfined, unfiltered, and made with minimal sulfur additions, it is explicitly built to be served with a light chill and enjoyed at a lively dinner party.

What is natural wine?
Natural wine is wine made with minimal intervention from the winemaker, using organically or biodynamically grown grapes and without the addition of chemicals or additives such as sulfites. The result is a wine that is unique, expressive, and often has a more complex and nuanced flavor profile than conventional wines. Natural wine is also often associated with sustainable and ethical farming practices, making it a popular choice for those interested in environmentally friendly and socially responsible products.
