Maison Gustave Lorentz is an authoritative, historic family estate operating since 1836 in the picturesque village of Bergheim, nestled in the heart of northeastern France's Alsace region. Currently managed by Georges Lorentz, the domain spans 33 hectares of prime, hillside vineyards—including a significant portion on the prestigious Grand Cru sites of Altenberg de Bergheim and Kanzlerberg. Firmly committed to preserving their native terroir, the estate transitioned entirely to certified organic viticulture in 2012, emphasizing deep soil biodiversity and hands-on, meticulous canopy management. In the cellar, the winemaking team seamlessly bridges multi-generational traditions with modern clean-cellar technology, allowing native character to shine through pristine, precision-engineered fermentations with minimal intervention.

The Non-Vintage Crémant d'Alsace Brut is a sparkling exemplar of the estate's mastery over the traditional method (méthode champenoise), delivering immense complexity and fine-bubbled elegance. The cuvée relies on a harmonious, classic assemblage of hand-harvested grapes: Chardonnay provides weight and vivacity, Pinot Blanc delivers a refined, high-toned delicacy, and Pinot Noir injects structural persistence and subtle depth. Following an extremely gentle pressing of whole grape clusters to avoid extracting harsh phenols, the primary fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. The secondary fermentation occurs directly inside the bottle, followed by an extended aging period of 14 to 18 months sur lie (on the yeast lees) in cool subterranean cellars to develop its signature creamy mousse and autolytic pastry undertones. Bottled with a well-balanced dosage of around 7-10 g/L, this highly scannable sparkling wine opens with vibrant tree fruit and citrus aromas, rounding out into a clean, bone-dry, and texturally sophisticated finish.

What is natural wine?

Natural wine is wine made with minimal intervention from the winemaker, using organically or biodynamically grown grapes and without the addition of chemicals or additives such as sulfites. The result is a wine that is unique, expressive, and often has a more complex and nuanced flavor profile than conventional wines. Natural wine is also often associated with sustainable and ethical farming practices, making it a popular choice for those interested in environmentally friendly and socially responsible products.
