Podere Sassi is an authoritative, deeply passionate natural wine estate located in the historic Sabina region, a striking territorial boundary stretching between northern Lazio and Umbria. Founded and operated by vigneron Leonardo Rossi, the estate centers around a family property dating back centuries, originally bought by Leonardo's grandfather. Driven by a desire to resurrect the authentic, unmanipulated winemaking traditions of the region, Rossi carefully tends to low-yielding vineyards rooted in pristine, high-altitude clay and limestone soils. The entire farm operates as a sustainable, balanced agricultural ecosystem. In the cellar, Leonardo maintains a strict low-intervention methodology, managing spontaneous fermentations exclusively with indigenous wild yeasts, skipping temperature control, and completely bypassing industrial fining and filtration to bottle the pure, energetic soul of the Sabina terroir.
The 2022 "Casamia" Rosso is a wonderfully soulful, vibrant red wine engineered to reflect the classic, everyday drinking style of an authentic Italian table wine. This vintage combines a traditional regional assemblage of Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, Sangiovese, and Ciliegiolo grapes. The hand-harvested grape clusters undergo a meticulous 10-day skin maceration inside open-top vats to extract color and complex aromatics without over-pulling heavy, angular seed tannins into the juice. To build structural integrity and real textural interest while preserving primary fruit clarity, the wine undergoes a gentle 6-month maturation on its fine lees inside neutral concrete tanks. Bottled completely unfined, unfiltered, and with only minimal sulfur additions as needed, this highly scannable vintage balances deep dark forest fruits with an elegant, mouthwatering mineral nerve and a bone-dry, chalky finish.

What is natural wine?
Natural wine is wine made with minimal intervention from the winemaker, using organically or biodynamically grown grapes and without the addition of chemicals or additives such as sulfites. The result is a wine that is unique, expressive, and often has a more complex and nuanced flavor profile than conventional wines. Natural wine is also often associated with sustainable and ethical farming practices, making it a popular choice for those interested in environmentally friendly and socially responsible products.
