The Producer
Biokult is a groundbreaking, highly collaborative biodynamic estate project run by the Michlits family, based in Pamhagen in the sunny Burgenland region of eastern Austria. Longtime pioneers of organic and Demeter-certified biodynamic viticulture, the Michlits family works in harmony with the delicate ecosystem surrounding the nearby Neusiedlersee National Park. They view their vineyards as self-sustaining organisms—utilizing estate-raised livestock, native cover crops, and wild biodiversity to enrich the soils without synthetic chemicals. In the cellar, their winemaking centers on a minimalist, highly pure philosophy: employing gentle pressing, spontaneous fermentations driven by native wild yeasts, and aging in stainless steel tanks without harsh additions or heavy manipulation.
The Wine
The 2024 Biokult Grüner Veltliner is a brilliantly expressive, highly scannable organic white wine that delivers a textbook, energy-filled portrait of Austria’s flagship grape variety. Sourced from certified biodynamic vines rooted in the sandy-clay and limestone soils of Burgenland, the fruit is harvested in the cool early hours to protect its vivid primary aromatics and snapping natural acidity. The hand-selected grapes undergo a classic, reductive stainless-steel fermentation using native yeasts to keep the style completely clean, crisp, and driving. Maturing on its fine lees for roughly 7 months before bottling, the wine is left unfined, lightly handled, and vegan-certified. The 2024 vintage strikes an effortless balance; it seamlessly pairs an aromatic bouquet of orchard fruit, fresh herbs, and classic Pfefferl (white pepper) with a juicy, stone-laced mineral structure and a lip-smacking finish.

What is natural wine?
Natural wine is wine made with minimal intervention from the winemaker, using organically or biodynamically grown grapes and without the addition of chemicals or additives such as sulfites. The result is a wine that is unique, expressive, and often has a more complex and nuanced flavor profile than conventional wines. Natural wine is also often associated with sustainable and ethical farming practices, making it a popular choice for those interested in environmentally friendly and socially responsible products.
