Susucaru Rosato is a natural wine from iconic Etna producer Frank Cornelissen, made with minimal intervention and a strong sense of place on the volcanic soils of Mount Etna’s northern slopes. After light destemming and a short period of skin contact with indigenous yeasts, the wine completes malolactic fermentation for texture and stability, and matures in neutral tanks before bottling unfined and with little or no added sulfites. Though labeled a rosé, Susucaru often tastes closer to a light red with refreshing acidity and subtle tannic grip. Cornelissen’s approach emphasizes terroir expression, using locally adapted indigenous varieties and spontaneous fermentation without additives.

What is natural wine?
Natural wine is wine made with minimal intervention from the winemaker, using organically or biodynamically grown grapes and without the addition of chemicals or additives such as sulfites. The result is a wine that is unique, expressive, and often has a more complex and nuanced flavor profile than conventional wines. Natural wine is also often associated with sustainable and ethical farming practices, making it a popular choice for those interested in environmentally friendly and socially responsible products.
