Region: Brouilly, Beaujolais, France (Saint-Lager)
Grapes: 100% Gamay
Body: Light to Medium
Notes: Fresh strawberry, red cherry, and raspberry, with fine, silky tannins and a bright, mineral-driven finish
Pairing: Charcuterie, roast chicken, grilled salmon, or lightly chilled on a warm afternoon
The Producer
Château Cambon began as a joint project of the late Marcel Lapierre, his wife Marie, and Jean-Claude Chanudet, three friends who found an overlooked property on the edge of Morgon and Brouilly and saw its promise despite sitting just outside the Cru boundaries. Farmed biodynamically and following the natural winemaking principles pioneered by Jules Chauvet, the estate's oldest vines date to 1914. Alexandre Iwasuila joined in 2022 to gradually take over day-to-day work, carrying forward Marcel's methods with fresh energy.
The Wine
This Brouilly comes from 65-year-old, biodynamically farmed Gamay planted on granite and clay-limestone soils in Saint-Lager, facing Mont Brouilly. Whole clusters are hand-picked and fermented spontaneously with a semi-carbonic maceration lasting about two weeks, then aged nine months in old oak casks and bottled with minimal sulfur. The result is classic, unfussy Cambon: juicy strawberry, red cherry, and raspberry fruit, nervy acidity, and a soft, velvety tannic frame, the kind of easy, versatile red that drinks beautifully with a light chill.

What is natural wine?
Natural wine is wine made with minimal intervention from the winemaker, using organically or biodynamically grown grapes and without the addition of chemicals or additives such as sulfites. The result is a wine that is unique, expressive, and often has a more complex and nuanced flavor profile than conventional wines. Natural wine is also often associated with sustainable and ethical farming practices, making it a popular choice for those interested in environmentally friendly and socially responsible products.
