The Producer
Chiorri is a fifth-generation, family-run winery in Sant'Enea, just outside Perugia in Umbria, now led by Monica Chiorri and her husband Francesco. The estate's 25 hectares sit on hilly, east-west facing terrain with medium-consistency soils that catch sun from dawn to sunset. Chiorri was the first winery in Umbria certified under Italy's SQNPI sustainability system, reflecting a long-standing commitment to responsible farming alongside tradition.

The Wine
Chiorri's Sangiovese is a pure, single-varietal expression of the estate's namesake grape, fermented in stainless steel with minimal intervention and no artificial stabilizing methods, which leaves a light natural sediment as a mark of authenticity. The 2023 shows an intense ruby red color with cherry, violet, red rose, and fresh red fruit on the nose, layered with subtle spice. On the palate it's fresh and light-bodied, with moderate tannin and a vibrant, food-friendly finish.

What is natural wine?

Natural wine is wine made with minimal intervention from the winemaker, using organically or biodynamically grown grapes and without the addition of chemicals or additives such as sulfites. The result is a wine that is unique, expressive, and often has a more complex and nuanced flavor profile than conventional wines. Natural wine is also often associated with sustainable and ethical farming practices, making it a popular choice for those interested in environmentally friendly and socially responsible products.
