The Producer
Deux Punx is a fiercely independent, low-intervention natural winery originally founded in a San Francisco garage by Dan Schaaf and now rooted in Napa Valley. Driven by a do-it-yourself, punk rock philosophy, the team rejects heavy-handed winemaking, oak influence, and industrial additives in favor of raw, living wines that express pure site character. Sourcing organically farmed fruit from dedicated growers across Northern and Central California, Deux Punx works exclusively with native yeast fermentations, neutral aging vessels, and minimal-to-zero added sulfur, bottling their wines unfined and unfiltered.
The Wine
The 2024 Orange Chardonnay is a delightfully unconventional, high-energy skin-contact white. Sourced from organically grown Chardonnay in the cool-climate River Road Vineyard of the Russian River Valley, the 100% destemmed grapes are macerated on their skins for roughly three weeks. This prolonged contact extracts an amber hue along with fine, tea-like tannins and complex savory aromatics. Following spontaneous wild yeast fermentation, the wine is aged for 8 months in neutral oak barrels and bottled with minimal intervention. The 2024 vintage strikes an impressive balance; it masterfully pairs aromatic notes of dried stone fruit, citrus peel, and herbal tea with a solid textural backbone and a lively, mouthwatering acidity.

What is natural wine?
Natural wine is wine made with minimal intervention from the winemaker, using organically or biodynamically grown grapes and without the addition of chemicals or additives such as sulfites. The result is a wine that is unique, expressive, and often has a more complex and nuanced flavor profile than conventional wines. Natural wine is also often associated with sustainable and ethical farming practices, making it a popular choice for those interested in environmentally friendly and socially responsible products.
