The Producer
Fujimaru Winery is a pioneering, highly authoritative force in the Japanese wine landscape, operating as one of the country's very first urban wineries with locations in both Osaka and Tokyo. Founded by Shusaku Fujimaru, the project was born from a desire to bring the world of grape growing and natural winemaking directly to city dwellers. Fujimaru sources pristine fruit from passionate organic growers across Japan, while also farming their own historic, steep plots in the Kashiwara area of Osaka—a region with a rich, century-long history of grape cultivation. Operating under a low-intervention framework, the winery utilizes native yeast fermentations, minimal handling, and skips heavy filtration or chemical fining to craft highly expressive, transparent wines that capture the unique meeting point of rural Japanese agriculture and urban creativity.

The Wine
The 2023 "Glou Glou Orange" is a wonderfully vibrant, highly scannable skin-contact wine designed for ultimate freshness and effortless drinking. This cuvée is crafted entirely from Delaware, a pink-skinned hybrid variety that thrives in Japan and has become a darling of the local natural wine movement. Rather than subjecting the fruit to heavy, highly astringent extraction, the winemaking team uses a gentle maceration process. The hand-harvested grapes undergo a short, spontaneous native yeast fermentation on their skins, allowing the pink pigments to tint the juice into a striking, hazy orange-amber hue while drawing out delicate, tea-like tannins. Bottled unfined and unfiltered with minimal sulfur additions, the 2023 vintage is beautifully light-footed; it masterfully pairs an exotic bouquet of stone fruits and mild spices with a lively, thirst-quenching acidity and a clean, saline-driven finish.

What is natural wine?

Natural wine is wine made with minimal intervention from the winemaker, using organically or biodynamically grown grapes and without the addition of chemicals or additives such as sulfites. The result is a wine that is unique, expressive, and often has a more complex and nuanced flavor profile than conventional wines. Natural wine is also often associated with sustainable and ethical farming practices, making it a popular choice for those interested in environmentally friendly and socially responsible products.
