Region: Sicily, Italy
Grapes: 100% Catarratto
Body: Medium-bodied
Notes: Dried orange peel, dried flowers, white peach, sandalwood, salted almond.

Additional Info:
Cala is part of the Fuso project — a collaboration between the importer PortoVino and local growers that highlights organically farmed, terroir-driven wines from off-the-radar Italian regions. This bottling is crafted by Dario Serrentino from northern Sicily using the Catarratto Extra Lucido clone, known for added texture and depth relative to common Catarratto. The grapes see about 50 hours of skin contact in stainless steel, then age on lees to build more complexity before bottling. The result is a dry, expressive wine with a saline finish evocative of sea spray, balancing citrus and floral notes with gentle texture. It sits stylistically between a white and a light “orange wine,” making it a vibrant food-friendly choice.

What is natural wine?

Natural wine is wine made with minimal intervention from the winemaker, using organically or biodynamically grown grapes and without the addition of chemicals or additives such as sulfites. The result is a wine that is unique, expressive, and often has a more complex and nuanced flavor profile than conventional wines. Natural wine is also often associated with sustainable and ethical farming practices, making it a popular choice for those interested in environmentally friendly and socially responsible products.
