Il Farneto is a pioneering, low-intervention natural estate situated on the hills of Castellarano in the Reggio Emilia region of Emilia-Romagna. Founded in the 1990s by Marco Bertoni, the estate spans 35 hectares of biodiverse farmland, including 8 hectares of vines surrounded by woods and fields. Certified organic and biodynamic, Il Farneto focuses heavily on preserving local heritage varieties while reviving traditional, low-intervention methods for making naturally sparkling frizzante wines. In the cellar, Marco works strictly with native yeasts, minimal intervention, neutral vessels, and no filtration or heavy sulfur additions to capture the raw, vibrant energy of the Emilian hills.
The Wine
Il Farneto’s Lambrusco (often labeled under their Frisant Rosso line) is a mouthwatering, dry sparkling red crafted entirely from 100% Lambrusco Grasparossa. The organically and biodynamically grown grapes are hand-harvested and fermented spontaneously with native yeasts. The wine undergoes secondary fermentation to naturally trap a light, lively effervescence while remaining completely bone-dry.
