Additional Info: La Spinetta is one of Piedmont's most iconic and dynamic estates, founded by the Rivetti family. The story begins in the 1890s when Giovanni Rivetti left Piedmont for Argentina; his son Giuseppe "Pin" eventually returned, married Lidia, and bought vineyards. In 1977 the family settled at La Spinetta ("top of the hill") in Castagnole Lanze. The Valeirano vineyard is in Treiso, one of the key communes of Barbaresco, with a southwest exposure at 380 meters elevation on clay-limestone marl of marine origin. Vines now average 55 years old across 7.4 acres. Maceration and fermentation for 14-15 days in temperature-controlled vats, malolactic in French oak (20% new, balance second-passage), aged 20-22 months then 6 months in bottle. The 2000 vintage was rated 92/100 by critics — an excellent Piedmont year. La Spinetta also produces Barbarescos from Starderi and Gallina, plus Barolo Campè and their signature Pin blend.

What is natural wine?

Natural wine is wine made with minimal intervention from the winemaker, using organically or biodynamically grown grapes and without the addition of chemicals or additives such as sulfites. The result is a wine that is unique, expressive, and often has a more complex and nuanced flavor profile than conventional wines. Natural wine is also often associated with sustainable and ethical farming practices, making it a popular choice for those interested in environmentally friendly and socially responsible products.
