Region: Monferrato, Piedmont, Italy
Grapes: 50% Nebbiolo, 25% Barbera, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon (2000 vintage blend)
Body: Full
Notes: Dense, rich, and exotic at 24 years old. Smoky black fruit, vanilla, espresso, spice box, dark chocolate, leather. Chewy texture with moderate tannins and a sweet, concentrated finish. A fully mature, opulent Piedmontese blend.
Pairing: Braised meats, rich pasta with ragù, blue cheese, dark chocolate.
Additional Info: Pin is La Spinetta's tribute to patriarch Giuseppe "Pin" Rivetti, first produced in 1989. The Rivetti family story begins in the 1890s when Giovanni Rivetti left Piedmont for Argentina dreaming of returning a rich man. His son Pin fulfilled that dream, buying vineyards and starting what would become one of Piedmont's most important estates. The Pin blend has evolved over the years — the 2000 vintage was 50% Nebbiolo, 25% Barbera, and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, while modern releases are typically 65% Nebbiolo and 35% Barbera with no Cabernet. The Nebbiolo comes from Barbaresco vineyards and the Barbera from the Bionzo vineyard, planted in 1975 on calcareous soils in Neive. Fermented separately in temperature-controlled rotofermenters for 7-8 days, malolactic in oak, then aged 16-18 months in new French oak barriques (medium toast). The 2000 was rated 91 pts by Robert Parker.

What is natural wine?
Natural wine is wine made with minimal intervention from the winemaker, using organically or biodynamically grown grapes and without the addition of chemicals or additives such as sulfites. The result is a wine that is unique, expressive, and often has a more complex and nuanced flavor profile than conventional wines. Natural wine is also often associated with sustainable and ethical farming practices, making it a popular choice for those interested in environmentally friendly and socially responsible products.
