The Producer
Le Coste is a world-renowned, iconic natural estate located in Gradoli, overlooking the volcanic shores of Lake Bolsena in northern Lazio. Founded in 2004 by Gianmarco Antonuzi and Clementine Bouveron, the domain spans 14 hectares of wild, biodiverse farmland encompassing vineyards, olive trees, chestut woods, and gardens. Operating under strict biodynamic principles, Gianmarco and Clementine treat the farm as a living, self-regulating ecosystem. In the cellar, Le Coste is famous for its uncompromising zero-zero philosophy: using strictly native yeast fermentations, avoiding all temperature control or industrial intervention, aging in old neutral casks, bottling without fining or filtration, and adding absolute zero sulfur dioxide.
The Wine
"Ripazzo Rosso" is a rare, deeply compelling cuvée crafted using a variation of the traditional Italian ripasso method. To make this wine, Le Coste takes a light, fresh red base wine and re-ferments it over the left-over grape skins and lees of their top-tier, long-maceration reserve red cuvées. This process infuses the wine with extra depth, dark fruit concentration, velvety tannins, and complex savory notes without making it feel heavy or over-extracted. The 2022 vintage showcases remarkable energy and weight; it masterfully pairs a wild nose of dark forest berries, Mediterranean scrub, and volcanic earth with a lush, textured mouthfeel, mouthwatering natural acidity, and a long, complex, mineral-driven finish.

What is natural wine?
Natural wine is wine made with minimal intervention from the winemaker, using organically or biodynamically grown grapes and without the addition of chemicals or additives such as sulfites. The result is a wine that is unique, expressive, and often has a more complex and nuanced flavor profile than conventional wines. Natural wine is also often associated with sustainable and ethical farming practices, making it a popular choice for those interested in environmentally friendly and socially responsible products.
