Ruth Lewandowski Wines is the deeply soulful, highly unorthodox creation of winemaker Evan Lewandowski. Named after the biblical Book of Ruth (and a nod to themes of death and rebirth), the project was famously born in Utah, where Evan would drive refrigerated trucks of pristine, organically grown Mendocino County fruit across state lines to vinify them in Salt Lake City. Evan's philosophy is rooted in absolute low-intervention "zero-zero" winemaking—meaning nothing added and nothing taken away—resulting in raw, dynamic, and texturally complex expressions of California terroir.

The 2021 "Tasteful in Nature" is Evan’s rare and highly coveted dive into the sparkling world—a cuvée he playfully admits is scarce because "sparkling is HARD". Sourced from the Lost Hills Vineyard nestled in the high-elevation, schist-driven soils of the Yorkville Highlands AVA, this is a 100% Muscat bottling that defies all commercial expectations. To extract its beautiful amber glow and distinctive physical personality, the grapes are fermented completely on their skins before finishing via the méthode traditionnelle (traditional method), spending an extended period aging on its lees before disgorgement. Bottled with no added sulfur, no dosage sugar, and remaining unfiltered, it unleashes an explosion of exotic spices, citrus rind, and floral musk on the nose, balanced by a fine, energetic mousse and a chewy, tannic grip that turns standard sparkling white concepts completely on their head.

What is natural wine?

Natural wine is wine made with minimal intervention from the winemaker, using organically or biodynamically grown grapes and without the addition of chemicals or additives such as sulfites. The result is a wine that is unique, expressive, and often has a more complex and nuanced flavor profile than conventional wines. Natural wine is also often associated with sustainable and ethical farming practices, making it a popular choice for those interested in environmentally friendly and socially responsible products.
