Grapes: 100% Nerello Mascalese
Body: Medium
Notes: Volcanic and haunting. Red cherry, pomegranate, dried herbs, black tea, iron, and a long, ashy, mineral finish with silky tannins that feel carved from the mountain itself. Etna Rosso as a statement of place.
Pairing: Grilled swordfish, roasted lamb, aged Pecorino Siciliano, mushroom pasta, or anything with the depth to match volcanic terroir.
Terre Nere Etna Rosso "Anniversario — Calderara Sottana" celebrates the 20th anniversary of the estate's first harvest with a special selection from the Bellacolonna subplot of the Calderara Sottana contrada on the northern slopes of Mount Etna. The 3-hectare Bellacolonna subplot was planted in 2006 and 2007, growing 100% Nerello Mascalese at 600–650 meters above sea level on extremely rocky volcanic soils of black pumice and solid volcanic rock — among the most dramatic and mineral-rich terroirs in all of Italy. Fermentation takes place at controlled temperatures with spontaneous malolactic fermentation, followed by 14 months aging in French oak barriques, tonneaux, and casks (10% new oak) before resting in stainless steel prior to bottling. Approximately 35,000 bottles produced worldwide. Marc de Grazia established Terre Nere as the benchmark Etna estate in the early 2000s, and this anniversary bottling is a celebration of two decades of volcanic winemaking at the highest level.

What is natural wine?
Natural wine is wine made with minimal intervention from the winemaker, using organically or biodynamically grown grapes and without the addition of chemicals or additives such as sulfites. The result is a wine that is unique, expressive, and often has a more complex and nuanced flavor profile than conventional wines. Natural wine is also often associated with sustainable and ethical farming practices, making it a popular choice for those interested in environmentally friendly and socially responsible products.
