Region: Saint-Joseph, Northern Rhône, France
Grapes: Syrah
Body: Medium-Full
Notes: Weightless intensity. Black and blue fruit, lavender, Moroccan spice, smoky minerality, candied flowers. Juicy, precise, and long with polished tannins and a botanical finish. Everything great Saint-Joseph should be — without the extraction or weight of its neighbors.
Pairing: Grilled lamb, duck confit, mushroom dishes, stews, aged Gouda.

Additional Info: Thomas Farge is the fifth generation to make wine in the Northern Rhône, taking over from his celebrated father Guy Farge. After spending 10 years in South America, Thomas returned home in 2018 and immediately began converting the family estate to organic and biodynamic farming, following the moon calendar. He trained alongside legends — Jean-Louis Chave and Stéphane Usseglio — and has scooped up incredible terroir including parcels in Saint-Joseph, Cornas (including the famed Reynard), Saint-Péray, and Condrieu. The Côte du Pouly is the family's best parcel of Syrah in Saint-Joseph, bottled on its own to mark the father-to-son transition. In the cellar, Thomas uses a mix of 228L, 400L, and 600L oak from Atelier Center France, plus concrete and stainless steel. Reds see some whole-cluster fermentation with cold soak and long fermentation. A rare combination of tradition and innovation — the new Northern Rhône, distilled.

What is natural wine?

Natural wine is wine made with minimal intervention from the winemaker, using organically or biodynamically grown grapes and without the addition of chemicals or additives such as sulfites. The result is a wine that is unique, expressive, and often has a more complex and nuanced flavor profile than conventional wines. Natural wine is also often associated with sustainable and ethical farming practices, making it a popular choice for those interested in environmentally friendly and socially responsible products.
