The Producer
Bedrock Wine Co. was founded in 2007 by Morgan Twain-Peterson MW (son of Ravenswood founder Joel Peterson) and his partner Chris Cottrell. The winery is dedicated to preserving and rehabilitating California’s historic, old-vine heritage vineyards, some of which date back to the 19th century. Farming sustainably and organically across unique historic sites, Bedrock focuses on field blends and heirloom grape varieties. In the cellar, Twain-Peterson follows a minimal-intervention approach: spontaneous fermentations with native yeasts, minimal use of new oak, no chemical manipulations, and low sulfur additions to honor the distinct voice of ancient Californian soils.
The Wine
"Ode to Lulu" is Bedrock's affectionate tribute to the late Lulu Peyraud, the legendary matriarch of Domaine Tempier in Bandol, France. Crafted in a classic Provence-meets-California style, the wine is sourced predominantly from ancient, dry-farmed Mourvèdre, Grenache, and Carignan vines planted in Contra Costa County and Sonoma. The hand-harvested grapes are pressed gently using direct-press and short-maceration techniques to capture a pale salmon hue. Fermented naturally with native yeasts in stainless steel and neutral oak barrels, the 2025 vintage delivers high-toned red berry fruits, electric acidity, and a quenching, mineral-driven bone-dry finish.

What is natural wine?
Natural wine is wine made with minimal intervention from the winemaker, using organically or biodynamically grown grapes and without the addition of chemicals or additives such as sulfites. The result is a wine that is unique, expressive, and often has a more complex and nuanced flavor profile than conventional wines. Natural wine is also often associated with sustainable and ethical farming practices, making it a popular choice for those interested in environmentally friendly and socially responsible products.
