The Producer
La Vizcaína is a focused single-vineyard project created by visionary winemaker Raúl Pérez in his hometown of Valtuille de Abajo in Bierzo, Spain. Named after his family’s ancestral roots, the project explores historic, ancient plots planted primarily in the 1920s and 1930s. Pérez practices organic viticulture and low-intervention cellar practices: spontaneous fermentations with ambient native yeasts, aging in large neutral wood and clay vessels, no chemical adjustments, and bottling without fining or heavy filtration to deliver an authentic, terroir-driven expression of Bierzo.
The Wine
"La del Vivo" is the sole white bottling in the La Vizcaína collection, sourced from old-vine Godello co-planted with Doña Blanca in the sandy-clay soils of Valtuille de Abajo. The hand-harvested grapes are vinified with minimal intervention, utilizing spontaneous wild-yeast fermentation and aging split between neutral oak vats and clay tinajas (amphorae) to build textural complexity while preserving raw acidity. Bottled unfined and unfiltered, the 2024 vintage yields vibrant citrus and white stone fruit, layered with saline minerality, structural tension, and a crisp, savory finish.

What is natural wine?
Natural wine is wine made with minimal intervention from the winemaker, using organically or biodynamically grown grapes and without the addition of chemicals or additives such as sulfites. The result is a wine that is unique, expressive, and often has a more complex and nuanced flavor profile than conventional wines. Natural wine is also often associated with sustainable and ethical farming practices, making it a popular choice for those interested in environmentally friendly and socially responsible products.
