The Producer
Società Agricola Folicello is an artisanal, family-run organic and biodynamic estate located in Castelfranco Emilia, between Modena and Bologna in Emilia-Romagna. Founded in the 1980s by Antonella and Marco, the estate was built on a commitment to ecological farming and preserving indigenous grape varieties without synthetic chemicals. Today, joined by their children, the family produces natural wines and organic grape juices with total respect for soil biology. In the cellar, winemaking is raw and minimalist: spontaneous fermentations driven by wild ambient yeasts, prolonged skin contact for whites, no fining, no filtration, and zero added sulfur across their natural lineup.

The Wine
"John Doe" is Folicello’s aromatic, skin-contact orange expression made entirely from Malvasia dell'Emilia grown in organically farmed alluvial soils. The hand-harvested grapes are destemmed and fermented spontaneously with native yeasts, spending an extended period macerating on the skins to extract deep amber hues, complex aromatics, and structural tannins. Bottled unfined, unfiltered, and strictly zero-zero with no added sulfites, the 2024 vintage delivers intense notes of dried stone fruit and citrus oil, balanced by a crunchy acidity, fine tea-like grip, and a dry, lingering herbal finish.

What is natural wine?

Natural wine is wine made with minimal intervention from the winemaker, using organically or biodynamically grown grapes and without the addition of chemicals or additives such as sulfites. The result is a wine that is unique, expressive, and often has a more complex and nuanced flavor profile than conventional wines. Natural wine is also often associated with sustainable and ethical farming practices, making it a popular choice for those interested in environmentally friendly and socially responsible products.
